Venue: Rydges Esplenade, Cairns, QLD

Explain Pain Exercise Edition is a special version of the world-renowned Explain Pain course – designed specifically for clinicians working in movement and exercise contexts.

In a world experiencing an epidemic of chronic pain – and growing evidence for the limits of purely biomedical approaches – this course brings together education, movement, and contemporary science to empower recovery.

You’ll gain all the core Explain Pain insights, while exploring how exercise and experiential learning can reshape unhelpful beliefs about the body, support bioplastic change, and build confidence in movement.

We’ll unpack the evidence behind common pain and exercise narratives – including posture, lifting, and biomechanics – and reframe how and why these matter. Through this, you’ll learn to help people develop greater control, agency, and self-efficacy in their recovery, using movement as both a learning and therapeutic tool.

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
      •     Reframe pain and stress through neuroimmunology, modern pain science, and bioplasticity.
      •     Apply conceptual change frameworks in individual and group movement-based settings.
      •     Integrate Explain Pain with other biopsychosocial, evidence-based approaches.
      •     Use metaphor, story, movement exploration, and multimedia to create engaging, patient-centred education.
      •     Employ the Protectometer to design multimodal, movement-focused treatment strategies.
              •           Use exercise and experiential learning to drive adaptive change, rebuild confidence, and strengthen agency in recovery.
